Tabs.
Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 30, 2026
Tabs. is a browser extension for Chrome and Edge that replaces the new tab page with a tab manager. It works on your device first: your data stays in your browser unless you choose to turn on the optional cloud backup, which is off by default.
What Tabs. keeps on your device
- Your collections: their names, colors and order, and the tabs you saved in them (title, address, icon address, and the custom title or description you may have added).
- Your preferences, such as theme, language and view mode.
- A few automatic copies of your collections (the last three), made before you clear them, replace them with an import, restore a copy or accept changes from another device, so that you can undo it.
This is stored in your browser's extension storage. It does not leave your device unless you turn on sync or export your collections yourself.
Your open tabs
Tabs. reads the title, address and icon of your open tabs and windows to show them in the sidebar and to let you save or close them. It does not read the content of the pages you visit and it does not keep a history of your browsing. An open tab is only stored when you save it in a collection.
Optional cloud backup (sync)
Sync is off by default. If you turn it on from the Sync panel, Tabs. sends a copy of your collections to a server operated by the developer, so that you can recover them and keep the browsers signed in to the same account up to date.
- What is sent: the names, colors, order and state of your collections, and the saved tabs in them (title, address, icon address, custom title and description), with the dates they were created and last changed.
- Who you are to the service: nobody. There are no accounts, and no name or email is asked for. Tabs. creates a random identifier on your device and sends it with each request. Your browser keeps it in its own sync storage, so your browsers signed in to the same account share the same backup. Treat it like a password: whoever has it can read and change that backup. You can see it in the Sync panel.
- Where it goes: to
endpoints.hckr.mxover an encrypted connection (HTTPS), and from there to a database run by hosting providers that only host the service for me. The data is not end-to-end encrypted. - How long: until you delete it. When you delete something, the service keeps a marker of the deletion for up to 90 days, with no content, so that your other browsers learn about it; then it is erased.
- Turning it off: turning sync off stops sending data and leaves the copy that is already in the cloud. To erase it, use Forget me in the Sync panel: it permanently deletes everything stored in the cloud for your identifier and disconnects that browser, without touching the collections on your device.
What Tabs. does not do
- It has no analytics, no trackers, no advertising and no cookies.
- It does not sell, rent or share your data, and it does not use it for ads.
- It does not send your data anywhere unless you turn on sync, and then only to the service described above.
- It does not run on the pages you visit and it does not read their content.
The use of the information Tabs. handles complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements: it is used only to provide the features described on this page.
Other requests your browser makes
- The icons of your saved tabs are loaded from the address stored with each one, by your browser, directly from the site that hosts it. When you import a file that has no icons, Tabs. uses Google's favicon service for them, which receives the domain of each site.
- The About window shows the author's picture, loaded from
danielgarcia.me. As with any web request, that server sees your IP address. - Searching from zen mode opens a Google search in your browser, only when you do it.
Permissions
tabsandwindows: to list your open tabs and windows, open the ones you saved, and close the ones you move to a collection.storage: to keep your collections, preferences, backups and sync identifier in your browser.https://endpoints.hckr.mx/*: to talk to the sync service, only when sync is on.
Your control
- You can export and import your collections whenever you want.
- You can restore any of the automatic copies from Settings.
- You can turn sync off at any time and erase the cloud copy with Forget me.
- Uninstalling the extension removes the data it kept on your device. A cloud backup stays until you erase it with Forget me or ask me to.
Children
Tabs. is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from them.
